We are pleased to announce that VMR Southport has officially signed the Transition Framework Agreement (TFA) and will transition to Marine Rescue Queensland (MRQ).
Over the coming months, we will begin this transition process. Until then, we remain VMR Southport and will continue delivering the same trusted marine rescue service the Gold Coast community has relied on for more than 60 years.
We want to sincerely thank the Gold Coast community, local businesses, members, and supporters who have stood behind VMR Southport over the past six decades. Your support has helped build VMR Southport into one of the busiest marine rescue units in Queensland—and possibly Australia.
As part of the MRQ transition, marine rescue services will become free to the boating public under the new state-wide operating model. While this is a significant and positive change, local community support will remain just as important as ever.
This is where our Supporters Club will play a vital role.
The VMR Southport Supporters Club will work alongside the MRQ operational team to ensure our volunteers continue to have access to additional resources that enhance our service—such as upgraded equipment, improved safety gear, volunteer support initiatives, training opportunities, and future enhancements to vessels and facilities.
In short, while MRQ will fund core rescue operations, your ongoing support through the Supporters Club will help ensure VMR Southport continues to operate at the highest possible standard.
By remaining a supporter, you are investing directly in the people, equipment, and local marine rescue capability that keeps Gold Coast boaties safe.
We look forward to sharing more details about the Supporters Club in the coming months and hope you will continue this journey with us.
Thank you for your continued support.
Together, we will continue saving lives at sea and keeping Gold Coast boaties safe for generations to come.
